Weight loss success is mainly determined by how you actually go through that journey. Most people who embark on a weight loss journey will quit the journey once the initial excitement is over and they face the unrelenting grind that’s demanded in this arduous journey – they simply give up. These 5 tips to your weight loss success will show you how exactly you should be approaching your weight loss journey.
It is important to find out how to keep going and keep that initial motivation in order to continue the journey. Most importantly, remember why you want to lose weight in the first place (your motivation) and keep it at the forefront of your mind when in that journey. Attainment of your weight loss goal rests on you never forgetting your ‘why’.
• Write it Down
Before you begin your weight loss journey, always write down in a journal why you’re embarking on this endeavor. Dig deep and get to the real truth. The reason for you to start the journey. Maybe you want a better sense of self-esteem or you want your family to admire you more and to look at you in a new way. Maybe you want to turn heads.
Just write it down. There is no right or wrong answer. Vanity is perfectly fine. If you’re not honest with yourself, your why will not seem significant. It’s imperative that you ‘keep things real’ and understand why you do what you do. During your weight loss journey, when your emotions may be down and you’re exhausted from the workouts and trying to eat clean – reading your ‘why’ that you wrote down before will work wonders for your resolve and your soul. It will spark that motivation up again. You’ll realize that you didn’t come this far to quit and give up your dreams. You’ll know that if you dreamed it was possible in the beginning, it’s still possible now – and you’ll keep going even if progress is slow. Progress is still progress.
• Record it Down
Everybody and their grandma have a smartphone these days. Record your why on video. Speak to your phone screen and tell yourself why you want to lose weight and what you hope to achieve. Once again, keep it real and be honest with yourself – tell yourself why you really want to lose weight. Throughout your weight loss journey, you can always watch the video of ‘hopeful you’ and realize that nothing has changed. You still want the same things, and you’ll get them if you keep going. It’s more ‘fun’ and motivating to have a video recording instead of reading your journal. It’ll probably be more convenient too.
• Start a Vision Board
Have a board where you place photos of your ‘before self’ so that you’ll be able to compare them to your ‘after self’ in future. Take photos of yourself at the gym. Tack them to the board. Stick your training routine there. Add a few motivational quotes or affirmations. Want to wear fitting clothes once you’ve shed the blubber? Paste photos of the clothes on the board. Look at the board daily to motivate yourself and remind yourself of your why. Visualizing your success is vital to your journey – see your future self in your mind and work towards that goal.
• Set Milestones
Another thing that many people fail to do is setting milestones. If you need to lose 20 pounds, do NOT just say, “My goal is twenty pounds!” You need to break it down. It could be one or two pounds a week. You want to break it down into manageable bite-sized pieces. A whopping 20-pound weight loss may seem formidable and insurmountable. 2 pounds a week is much less scary. But 2 pounds over 10 weeks will get you a 20-pound weight loss. That’s what you want, isn’t it? It may seem like 10 weeks is a long time. But guess what? The time is going to pass anyway. If you quit or don’t start because it takes too long, 10 weeks later you’ll still be the same – or maybe heavier.
• Plan Rewards
Plan little rewards for yourself every time you hit a milestone and achieve your little goal. Do not reward yourself with food. You’re not a dog. Try something else like buying yourself something you want or going to watch a movie… or whatever else makes you happy. These rewards will help to motivate you and keep you going.
You can do it. If you follow the tips above and just keep going, you will lose weight and reach your weight loss goal. Always remember that motivation is the spark, but it’s the momentum that keeps you going. Maintain the momentum.
Remember, anything is possible, as long as you stay positive and honest with yourself. Follow these 5 Tips to Your Weight Loss Success, I am sure you’ll get there in the end.
