Succeed with your 2020 Weight Loss Resolutions

Let’s talk about 2020 New Year’s resolutions – The number one New Year’s Day resolution all over the year is to lose weight. The truth of the matter is that the 1st of January is just like any other day. You could decide to lose weight in December 2019 and it would be no different. The reason 1st January seems so meaningful to most people is that it signifies a ‘new beginning’… and of course, there’s the whole holiday spirit that has everyone feeling positive and jubilant.  With these 5 Ways to Succeed in Weight Loss 2020 Resolutions, you will succeed and lose weight.

However, this bright picture has a negative look. Most people who embark on a weight loss journey will throw in the towel by the third week of January. By March, almost 99% of them would have quit.

Once the initial excitement is over and they face the unrelenting grind that’s demanded in this arduous journey, they give up. The juice doesn’t seem worth the squeeze and they lose motivation and hope.

Here, you’re going to discover how to find your ‘why’, and most importantly, how to keep it at the forefront of your mind. Attainment of your weight loss goal rests on you never forget your ‘why’.

1. Write it Down

Before you begin your weight loss journey, always write down in a journal why you’re embarking on this endeavour. Dig deep and get to the real truth. Almost always, it will be an emotional one.

Maybe you want a better sense of self-esteem or you want your friends to look at you in a new way. Maybe you want to turn heads.

Just write it down. There is no right or wrong answer. Vanity is perfectly fine. If you’re not honest with yourself, your why will not seem significant. It’s imperative that you ‘keep things real’ and understand why you do what you do.

During your weight loss journey, when your emotional bank account is low, and you’re exhausted from the workouts and trying to eat clean – reading your ‘why’ that you wrote down before will work wonders for your resolve and your soul.

You’ll realize that you didn’t come this far to quit. You’ll know that if you dreamed it was possible in the beginning, it’s still possible now – and you’ll keep going even if progress is slow. Progress is still progress.

2. Record it Down

Everybody and their grandma have a smartphone these days. Record your why on video. Speak to your phone screen and tell yourself why you want to lose weight and what you hope to achieve.

Throughout your weight loss journey, you can always watch the video of ‘hopeful you’ and realize that nothing has changed. You still want the same things, and you’ll get them if you keep going.

It’s more ‘fun’ and motivating to have a video recording instead of reading your journal. It’ll probably be more convenient too.

3. Start a Vision Board

Have a board where you place photos of your ‘before self’ so that you’ll be able to compare them to your ‘after self’ in future. Take photos of yourself at the gym. Tack them to the board. Visualisation is the key. It is important.

Stick your training routine there. Add a few motivational quotes and affirmations. Want to wear fitting clothes once you’ve shed the blubber? Paste photos of the clothes on the board.

Look at the board daily to motivate yourself and remind yourself of your why.

4. Set Milestones

Another thing that many people fail to do is setting milestones. If you need to lose 10 kilos, do NOT just say, “My goal is ten kilos!”

You need to break it down. It could be one or two pounds a week. You want to break it down into manageable bite-sized pieces. A whopping 10-kilo weight loss may seem formidable and insurmountable.

1 kilo a week is much less scary. But 1 kilo over 10 weeks will get you a 10-kilo weight loss. That’s what you want, isn’t it?

It may seem like 10 weeks is a long time. But guess what? The time is going to pass anyway. If you quit or don’t start because it takes too long, 10 weeks later you’ll still be the same – or maybe heavier.

5. Plan Rewards

Plan little rewards for yourself every time you hit a milestone and achieve your little goal. Do not reward yourself with food. You’re not a dog.

Try something else like buying yourself something you want or going to watch a movie… or whatever else makes you happy. Some jewellery, clothes or even some shoes. These rewards will help to motivate you and keep you going.

To conclude, if you follow the tips above and just keep going, you will lose the weight and reach your weight loss goal this coming year. Plan ahead and you will succeed. Always remember that motivation is the spark, but it’s the momentum that keeps you going. Maintain the momentum. So make it this coming year – your resolution a winning one with these 5 Ways to Succeed in Weight Loss 2020 Resolutions.
