Power of Your Words
Positive words and kind words can be very powerful. If you stick with positive people, you will become one of them. So how do we start?
The Bible talks about this very same truth. Here are some words from the book of Proverbs,
Proverbs 15:4 Gentle words bring life and health.
This is a great scripture to show how one can bring life and health using gentle words.
Proverbs 16:24 Kind words are like honey-sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
Truly your kind words can be honey to someone hurting.
Proverbs 18:4 A person’s words can be life-giving water; words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook.
Truly someone can bring life-giving water using his or her words.
So how should we start using this powerful weapon? It does not have to be to someone else – first, we can start from our own family. I like to think about it this way, sometimes without even realizing we call people by their nicknames or even funny names. As an example, we can say “you are a sweet little monkey”. It’s a nice way to talk but it is not what we should be doing. When we name our children, we try to give them nice names. Sometimes we don’t even think about the meaning, but this is what they will be called for their entire life.
We can imagine why in biblical times names had very powerful meanings. Like, Samuel means God has heard and Elizabeth means God is my oath. Some of these life-giving words we can impart to our family and friends. We should eliminate name-calling and also criticize others completely (including gossiping). Instead, we should surround ourselves with powerful and uplifting words. Not only do we call others by names – think about how many times we say we are “forgetful”, “fat”, “I cannot remember names”, etc. This way you image yourself and without even noticing you start believing yourself to be what you say. Every day, fill your mind with positive and uplifting thoughts, and you will be surprised how things will change in your life. Whatever words we choose not only shape others’ lives, but also our own lives.
When you see your name with its powerful meaning every day, you start believing that you are that person. I have created some names with meaning wall arts – BOYS NAMES, GIRLS NAMES and these can be wonderful gifts for your loved ones or even for you. You can hang them in your office or kids’ rooms to see the meaning behind your name and believe you will become that person.
